Green River UT - October 2025

First stop Green River, UT. Laugh if you want to, our family did. This was the first stop that wasn’t a family mooch-docking spot, and it was a perfect place to lay down stakes for a couple of days.  We started out the trip in Silt, CO where’d spend the night at my nephew’s.

Green River, UT is about 173 miles from Silt, CO.  We found in our trip down from Alaska that 150 to 250 miles per day works best for us.  We spend less time on the road during the busiest times of the day and

Driving across I-70 through Colorado and into Utah was a beautiful trip.  The farther west we traveled the more Fall colors we found, and then we popped into the beautiful desert with its stunning rock cliffs and mountains.

I’ll admit the desert isn’t my happy place but it sure makes Hubby’s heart sing.  He loves the arid climate and the miles of sand and sagebrush.  I love the sand, but I prefer mine with a side of sea rather than sage.

We put down stakes at Shady Acres RV Park.  October is definitely off season in this area, as we nearly had the whole RV Park to ourselves for the three day we were there.  While Shady Acres is an older RV park, they have a brand new laundromat, onsite liquor store, are attached to a gas station, and car wash.  They have a dog park, offer free hot showers and free wi-fi as well.  From what we could tell walking around the park, most of the RV sites are pull through of various sizes.

Our first night in town we opted for dinner out.  Having someone else cook on travel days is always a nice way to settle into a stay.  We picked Tamarisk after reading the Yelp reviews and we weren’t disappointed.  We’re both a sucker for fry bread tacos, so we each ordered the Navajo Taco, with beef and a side of green sauce, as suggested by a number of the reviews on Yelp.

I also ordered the T Roll to go for breakfast the next day.  This was one of the biggest cinnamon rolls i’ve eaten in a long time, soft and not overly sweet with the perfect amount of cream cheese frosting.  If you’re in the area we strongly recommend eating at Tamarisk.

While we were in the area we checked out Moab and visited the Hole N” The Rock House, a quaint tourist trap from my childhood memories.  Tours of the house are about $8/person, but in our opinion it’s worth the see.

It’s a 5,000 square foot house carved in the side of a sandstone cliff.  Work to build the house started in 1940 and was the Christen’s moved into it in 1952.

We grabbed lunch at the Moab Food Truck Park after.  this is the kind of place that would be a blast with a group of friends, as there are plenty of great options to please all the eaters in the bunch.

We opted to snag a Mezze Platter (above) from Wrap It Up and Buffalo Chicken Loaded Fries (below) from Cluckers Fried Chicken.

We only spent three days in this small town, but Green River, UT is a great spot to make your home base.  We didn’t even touch the tip of the iceberg on the things you can do in the area, especially if you’re an outdoor enthusiast.
